Cherry blossoms to bloom at Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival running from April 2-13

The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival will return to Philadelphia on Wednesday, running from April 2-13. The festival will welcome spring with karaoke, sushi-making classes, film showcases, discounted dinners and more events celebrating Japanese culture.

The festival was started as an initiative to plant 1,000 cherry trees in Fairmount Park, which was accomplished in 2007. Since then, the initiative has expanded to include other regions in the area in the tree-planting project and over 50 events during the four-week festival.

Barnes Foundation shows “Yinka Shonibare MBE: Magic Ladders”

The Barnes Foundation will open a new exhibition, “Yinka Shonibare MBE: Magic Ladders,” by a British artist of Nigerian descent, Yinka Shonibare MBE. As an artist that plays with deconstruction and perspective, Shonibare uses life-sized mannequins to critique and challenge establishment in art in his newest installment. The exhibition is open every day 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and is closed on Tuesdays.

‘Pay What You Can’ tour of Chinatown

Tours of one of Philly’s most culturally rich neighborhoods, Chinatown, are going on until Feb. 24 at 1:30 p.m. every other Sunday. Reservations are required. The tours begin outside of AIA Bookstore, located at 1218 Arch St., and last approximately two and a half hours. The tour is free, however the recommended amount of money to bring is $7-$10 in cash, for food. Sample foods on the tour include moon cakes, ginger tea, soup dumplings, Hong Kong, egg waffles and many more.
