Tickets go on sale for Philly Spring Jam Concert

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at noon for the Philly Spring Jam Concert at the Liacouras Center on March 29. The concert will feature performances from Keith Sweat, Ginuwine, 112, Whodini and Rob Base.

Rapper Doug E. Fresh will be hosting the event. Philly Connections tickets are $10 with TUid at the Reel Box Office. Only two tickets can be purchased per ID. The box office is located in the Student Center South. The concert is open to all.

Discussion to highlight climate change

The Department of Geography and Urban Studies has partnered with the Office of Sustainability to present “Philadelphia on the Frontline of Climate Change.”

The discussion will highlight how Temple and different organizations in Philadelphia are addressing the problem of climate change. Panelists will include Adam Garber, the field director at PennEnvironment, and Kathleen Grady, the director of sustainability at Temple. Christina Rosan, the director of environmental studies, will moderate the discussion. This event is open to all on Tuesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Room 208 of Anderson Hall.

Salsa lessons at tyler

Salsa dancing classes will be offered in Room B86 of the Tyler School of Art. The classes are led by Abraham Ramos and Molly Caro, former Fairhill School students, as part of the reForm Project and Temple Contemporary. Classes run from noon to 1 p.m. on March 16, 23 and 30. No registration is required and classes are open to all.

H. Wayne Snider Guest Lecture Series continues

The H. Wayne Snider Distinguished Guest Lecturer series continues tomorrow from noon to 12:50 p.m. in Alter Hall Auditorium A031. For this installment, Tom Belmont will discuss his experience serving as the Area President of the Mid-Atlantic Region at Gallagher Benefit Services. Belmont served as president of his own company, Belmont Associates Consultants, Inc., for 20 years before joining GBS. Belmont also volunteers as the board chair for the Coatesville Youth Initiative, a board member for the Brandywine Health Foundation and the campaign chair for the Campaign for Coatesville’s Kids. This discussion is free and open to all students interested in the fields of risk management, insurance and actuarial science industries.

Temple theaters to present ‘Merrily We Roll Along’

Temple Theaters presents “Merrily We Roll Along” starting Friday night and running until March 22 at the Randall Theater. Moving backward in time, this emotional piece examines the lives of Broadway composer Franklin Shepard and his former partner and estranged best friend. With music by Stephen Sondheim, this musical delves into the importance of staying true to one’s ideals. This is presented as a concert musical with direction by acclaimed HAIR director Brandon McShaffrey. The show is open to all and tickets are $10 with a TUid. Most shows begin at 7:30 p.m., but there are two matinee performances at 2 p.m. on March 15 and 22.

NPR TY critic leads ‘Decoding the Race Baiting of Modern Media’ discussion

NPR TV critic Eric Deggans will be leading a discussion Tuesday titled “Decoding the Race Baiting of Modern Media” from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Annenberg Hall atrium. Deggans will explore how media outlets use prejudice, stereotypes and racism to generate audiences and increase profits. Deggans believes the result of this manipulation is mistaken ideas about race difference and culture. Using different examples ranging from media coverage of the protests in Ferguson, Missouri to clips from the reality TV show Big Brother, Deggans will deconstruct how different types of racism manifest in modern media. He will reference his recent book, “Race-Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide A Nation.” This event is free and open to all.

Andrew Morrall to speak in Anderson

Bard Graduate Center Professor Andrew Morrall will lead a discussion Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Anderson Lecture Hall Room 7. His talk, “Art, Geometry and the Imagery of the Ruin in the Sixteenth Century Kunstkabinett,” will explore 16th-century intarsia Kunstkabinette. These are described as elaborately decorated art cabinets with multiple drawers and various slots for storing art objects and other collectibles. Morrall will discuss their scientific, artistic and collective qualities with attendees. This event is free and open to all. It is sponsored by the Tyler School of Art, the University General Activities Fund and the Department of Art History.

Samantha Bittman leads artist talk

Samantha Bittman will lead an artist talk on Thursday from 12:30-2 p.m. in Room 121 of the Tyler School of Art. Bittman is an artist based in Chicago. She has served on the faculty at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and now teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design. Recently, Bittman’s show “Razzle Dazzle” at Chicago’s Andrew Rafacz Gallery used paintings over patterned weave structures in black and white. Bittman’s talk is free and open to all.

The Pennsylvania Ballet premieres version of Swan Lake

The Pennsylvania Ballet’s version of Swan Lake premieres at the Academy of Music on March 15. Philly Connections tickets for the event go on sale at noon on Thursday. Tickets are $10 with a TUid and can be purchased at the Reel Box Office located in the Student Center South. There is a limit of two tickets per TUid. This sale is open to all students.
