PING PONG AT THE BELL TOWER

Student Center Operations will host games of ping pong at the Bell Tower today from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

According to events.temple.edu, students can stop by the Bell Tower in between classes to play some ping pong, learn about the activities at the Student Center’s Game Room and Cinema and “score some free swag!”

LAND THE JOB WORKSHOP

Randi Levitt, career coach at Temple’s Career Center, will hold a workshop tomorrow to help students develop their leadership skills. Students with leadership experience who are unsure of how to translate it into internships and employment are encouraged to join Levitt, who will focus on turning experiences into clear, result-focused bullet points.

The workshop will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in room 223 in the Howard Gittis Student Center. It is open to all undergraduate and graduate students.

CHIPOTLE CAREER DAY

Chipotle Mexican Grill will host its first ever National Career Day on Wednesday. From 8 to 11 a.m., every Chipotle in the United States will host about 60 group and individual interviews for potential employees. The restaurant plans to hire at least 4,000 new employees.

“TED 2” SCREENING

As a continuation of The Film Series at The Reel, “Ted 2” will be shown Thursday through Sunday at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The Reel is a student-run movie theater located in the Lower Level of the Student Center South, and it shows movies two weekends per month during the semester.

The Box Office will sell tickets for $2 with an Owl Card and $4 for others. Students can stop by the Box Office to purchase tickets Wednesday through Friday from noon until 6 p.m.

FLAG T-SHIRT RAFFLE

To honor the United States Military, Police, Fire and Emergency Services as part of a Sept. 11 memorial, Campus Recreation will host a flag T-shirt raffle all day on Friday. The event will occur in Suite 303 of Pearson Hall, and all students and faculty with Rec Center access are welcome to attend.

WORLD MUSIC PERFORMANCE

On Friday at 5 p.m., Rogerio Souza and Edinho Gerber, Brazilian guitarists, will hold a performance and conduct a lecture at Temple’s Rock Hall Auditorium. This event is open to all students, and will also satisfy the World Music requirement for Boyer undergraduate students.

D.C. INTERNSHIP INFO SESSION

On Monday, a guest from Temple’s partner in D.C., the Washington Center, will be speaking at an information session for anyone interested in the semester-long internships in Washington, D.C and Harrisburg by Temple’s Institute for Public Affairs.

The session will take place from to 2 to 4 p.m. in room 821 in Anderson Hall. These internships are open to Temple students of all majors and colleges in a wide range of positions in the public and private sector.

North Central Victims Services to host table

The North Central Victims Services will host an information table, called “Help Bring a Voice to Victims’ Rights,”  through April 23 from 1-4 p.m. in the Student Center atrium.

The participants will distribute information about victims’ rights and services, encourage attendees to sign up for newsletters and win prizes.

Temple’s student-run radio station, WHIP, will host a discussion with North Central Victims Services and Women Organized Against Rape Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. The events are part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, sponsored by the Department of Criminal Justice undergraduates. Both events are free and open to all.

Campus Safety Services to host food drive

Campus Safety Services is hosting a canned food and non-perishable goods drive in support of the AMOS Recreation Center New Community Food Bank located at the intersection of 16th and Berks streets. Examples of possible donations include peanut butter, jelly, breakfast cereal, hot cereal or macaroni and cheese.

Locations for drops off include 1101 W. Montgomery Ave., Temple Towers, Morgan Hall, 1300 Residence Hall, 1940 Residence Hall, Peabody Hall, Johnson and Hardwick Halls, White Hall, the Student Center, Tuttleman Learning Center, the Community Education Center and the police headquarters on 1801 N. 11th St.

The drive will run until April 24. No registration is required.

Relay for Life returns to Main Campus

The 12th annual college Relay For Life of Temple University starts at 6 p.m. on Friday in McGonigle Hall. Relay For Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society to celebrate the survivors, remember those lost to cancer and to fight back against the disease.

Sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer, the organized, overnight community fundraiser walk involves teams of people walking in turns. There will be food, games and activities available, including the Survivors Lap, which allows all cancer survivors in attendance to take the first lap of the evening. The walk will continue until 3 a.m. on Saturday. Volunteers must register online at www.relayforlife.org/patemple.

Temple to hold ‘Earth Hour’

For Earth Hour on March 28, the lights of the Eiffel Tower dimmed as millions went “powerless” to unite for climate action. In honor of Earth Hour, Temple will host its own event,  “Temple Unplugged: Turn Off and Turn Up from North to South” from 7-8 p.m. tomorrow night.

The acoustic Open Mic night will feature art, food, live music and performances. This year, the university will hold the event in two different locations at the same time to cater to students on both the north and south sides of Main Campus. Students can stop by either the Morgan Pavilion or the courtyard between Johnson and Hardwick and Peabody halls. Students interested in performing can reach out to the Office of Sustainability. The event is free and open to all.

Egyptian artist to lead conversation in Gladfelter

Egyptian artist Ganzeer and American artist and activist Josh MacPhee will lead a public conversation, “Art in/of the Street,” tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Based in Brooklyn, Ganzeer has worked with both graphic design and contemporary art since 2007.

He was ranked among “25 Street Artists from Around the World who are Shaking Up Public Art” in the Huffington Post, and Art in America Magazine has referred to his work as “new realism.” MacPhee is the founder of Inherent Archives and a member of the Justseeds Collective. Both Ganzeer and MacPhee will discuss their work and the role of art in social activism in the CHAT Lounge on the 10th floor of Gladfelter Hall. The event is free and open to all.

SMC hosts journalism discussion

The School of Media and Communication will host a discussion in the Annenberg Hall atrium on Friday from 2:30 to 4 p.m.  Using Silvio Waisbord’s book “An Ideal  Worth Defending? Professionalism Amidst Challenges to Autonomy and Boundaries in Journalism,” the discussion will examine current anxiety about the future of news and the notion of professionalism in journalism. This discussion is free and open to all.

Event to benefit Tyler

The biennial exhibition “Victory for Tyler” starts on Thursday at noon. Founded in 2007, the event benefits the Tyler School of Art. This juried exhibition of work is the largest exhibition of Tyler alumni art on display. Submissions are juried by Anthony Elms, Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.

The show will run until April 26. The opening reception for the general public will be held on April 11 from 6-8 p.m. Elms and various Temple administrators will speak. The show is free and open to the public at the Icebox  Project Space at Crane Arts on 1400 N. American St.

Campus Rec hosts Battleship competition

There will be a real life Battleship competition from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Campus Recreation Pearson Hall Pool 31.

Teams of three will take part in a life-size battleship tournament where the goal is to sink your opponent’s cane in the allotted time to become the last team standing. Points will be awarded throughout the night, and the highest scorers will battle for the win. This event is free and open to all. Registration is required. Participants must register with their teams at Pool 30 by Wednesday.

Kelly Link to read work on Main Campus

Kelly Link will read her work Thursday night from 5-6 p.m. in the Women’s Studies Lounge on the eighth floor of Anderson Hall. The co-founder of Small Beer Press, Link is the author of the story collections “Get In Trouble,” “Stranger Things Happen,” “Magic for Beginners” and “Pretty Monsters.”

Her short stories have been published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, The Best American Short Stories and Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards. Link has edited numerous anthologies including “The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror,” “Steampunk!” and “Monstrous Affections.” Link was invited as part of the MFA Creative Writing Program. Her reading is free and open to all.
