The Barnard Club of Philadelphia will host Feldman, a fiction author, for a discussion on her career. Philadelphia Latino Film Festival

Previously known as the Filadelfia Latin American Film Festival, the event showcases “the extraordinary and innovative work of established and emerging Latin American and Latinx filmmakers.” The Festival includes screenings, discussions, workshops and lectures, all designed to connect diverse communities “through the universal language of film.” The event opens this Friday night. Manayunk Arts Festival

One of the region’s largest outdoor festivals returns this coming weekend with over 300 artists and vendors. In addition to the opportunity to see and purchase art in mediums like fiber, glass, ceramics, photography, painting and mixed media, many of Manayunk’s restaurants will offer alfresco dining along the street. Rakim, Chill Moody and Dyme-A-Duzin at Underground Arts

Curated by Veteran Freshman and hosted by Reef the Lost Cauze and DJ Aktive, Rakim, Chill Moody and Dyme-A-Duzin will perform a Red Bull Sound Select Show at Underground Arts on April 16. Rakim is known for his work as one half of Eric B. & Rakim. The duo is best known for its 1987 debut, “Paid in Full.” The show is for 18-and-older and $3 with an RSVP or $10 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is first come, first serve.

Benefit show for “Hyphen” at Mile High House

The Mile High House is hosting a benefit show on April 10 for “Hyphen,” Temple’s undergraduate literary and art magazine. After recent funding cuts by the university, the magazine’s staff must raise enough money to publish the Spring 2015 issue. This is not the first benefit show Mile High House has hosted. In February, the house hosted a show to raise money for Project HOME.

Uncle/Father Oscar, Water Polo, Seoul Delhi and Everything I Lack are set to perform for the event. Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is $3.

‘All-Star Jazz Trio’ to perform, broadcasted on Temple radio

The All-Star Jazz Trio performs frequently at the Chinese cuisine restaurant Square on Square near 19th and Chestnut streets, and the group will continue to perform throughout April on Wednesdays and Fridays.

All three of its highly esteemed musicians are based in Philadelphia. Andrew Kahn, the trio’s pianist, wrote and produced “Hot Shot,” in 1978, a song performed by Karen Young that would go on to top the Billboard Charts;.Bassist Bruce Kaminsky teaches musicians at Drexel University and University of the Arts and Bruce Klauber, the drummer of the group, graduated from Temple in 1975 with a degree in communications and theater before delving into jazz performance in places like Atlantic City and Las Vegas. The performances will also be broadcasted on WRTI.

Food trucks and music return to the Porch at 30th Street

University City’s Porch at 30th Street Station is celebrating warmer spring weather with a month of specially featured food trucks and lunchtime entertainment. Throughout April, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., two different food trucks will serve lunch every day. Tuesdays through Fridays will feature performances from a variety of artists.

On April 2, there will be hoop dancing and food from Farm Truck and Sum Pig food trucks.

Punk Duo Girlpool will perform at Union Transfer

Girlpool, comprised of Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker, is an LA-based band that recently decided to move to Philadelphia. Here, the band finished its album “Before The World Was Big,” which will be released on June 2.

The college-age duo explores a range of issues through its music, including oppressive societal conformity and suffocating gender roles. Girlpool will perform on April 8 at Union Transfer with Waxahatchee and The Goodbye Party.

May’s 8th annual the Roots Picnic lineup announced

Now approaching its eighth year, the annual Roots Picnic will feature a diverse array of contemporary artists on May 30. The lineup includes everything from Toronto-based R&B artist The Weeknd, to the Greenwich native electronic rock duo Phantogram, to Harlem-born rapper A$AP Rocky. The Roots will perform with neo-soul singer Erykah Badu, who was featured on the group’s hit song, “You Got Me,” co-written by Temple alumna Jill Scott with The Roots in 1999.

The Picnic has always taken an eclectic approach to its lineup, showcasing nationally and internationally known artists like Janelle Monáe, Snoop Dogg and De La Soul.

As usual, the picnic will be held outdoors at Penn’s Landing, and audiences will have access to local Philly vendors and merchandise.

Open Call Guerilla Outdoor Performance Festival: Spring Break Edition

For the second Saturday in a row, the Open Call Guerilla Outdoor Performance Festival is set for March 14, where 22 performance art pieces will be taking place in the underground pedestrian concourse beneath City Hall. Organized by Beth Heinly, a local performance artist who also draws comics, the free event will include all kinds of public performances throughout the entire length of the concourse between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Pennsylvania Ballet presents “Swan Lake”

“Swan Lake” will be having its second and last weekend run at the Academy of Music from March 14-15. Set to the score by Tchaikovsky, the Pennsylvania Ballet’s version of the world-renowned love story features modernized choreography from Christopher Wheeldon, in addition to visual costumes and sets.

The performances will be at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on March 14, with the last 2 p.m. show on March 15. Ticket prices vary.
